Finding new work during COVID-19
Regional training coordinator at WorkOne
WorkOne Northern Indiana
With offices in five counties in northern Indiana, WorkOne helps connect local job seekers and employers. Anyone can call to set up an appointment with a case manager who will help you navigate unemployment insurance, search for a job in our community or find training to kickstart a career in a new field. WorkOne also hosts two networking groups to help make the process of looking for a job less stressful and more productive. These groups share information about promising leads that may never get advertised and help each other learn the do’s and don’ts about job searching.
“How to Succeed in a Virtual Interview”
COVID-19 has changed so much about searching for a job, including the interview process. Once you land a job interview, you may find that you have to talk to the recruiter online. This article from the job site Indeed outlines eight steps for putting your best foot forward and nailing your virtual interview.
If you’re interested in starting a career in a new field, I recommend you look at NextLevel Jobs, a resource created by the state of Indiana. This website connects you with training opportunities for in-demand industries. Many of these programs have recently opened up to be at no cost for individuals with a two- or four-year degree.
Your Next Step
If you are facing challenges with housing, food access, healthcare or childcare along with unemployment, you can find assistance through this website created by the governor's Workforce Cabinet. It offers a host of resources that can help you take the next step in your career, education and life. Think of the site as a lobby, with doors you can choose to walk through and connect to the help you need to move forward.
