Where to find artistic inspiration
Painter and muralist
New Masters Academy
As a self-taught artist, I am always looking to improve my technique. New Masters Academy is an affordable way to gain access to lessons from world-renowned instructors. With these tutorial videos, color theory boot camps and a window to more than 20,000 reference images, you can’t go wrong. I try to watch a video before bed to stay visually curious for the next day.
Art of Visuals
I once heard a self-taught artist say the most crucial part of his growth comes from asking questions. I listen in the studio to this podcast, which features interviews with working artists, and can often relate to their struggles and successes. It reminds me that I’m on the right path, and I’m not alone.
I go to this magazine to learn about a wide range of contemporary artists and entrepreneurs that move me. This is where I stumbled across my biggest color inspiration—Andrew Salgado. I find it easy to remain visually inspired with a click of a button and to stay up to date with the powerhouses that are changing the art world.
Detroit Institute of Arts
A friend and I recently traveled to Detroit to check out the city’s murals and museums. It was such a great experience, we decided to travel outside of our city regularly to bring back inspiration to South Bend. Meantime, here’s a way that all of us can explore some of what’s in Detroit without leaving home.
